A Capitol Idea

The idea is to take a picture every morning that I pass by the Capitol. I guess we'll see how it goes... I don't have much in the way of discipline....

The story:
I go to work at the ass-crack of dawn. I take the first Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter train from Burke to Union Station and then walk over to the Library. Seeing the buildings around the Hill first thing in the morning is still so beautiful to me... especially without all the dadgum tourists and without most of the protesters (although some of them do get up early.) It reminds me a little of why I got an architecture degree to start off with a million years ago. Passing by the Capitol with it's fairly newly redesigned plaza and Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) is so striking, and yes, I know EVERYONE takes pictures of the Capitol. It was a toss up between this and some part of the Library like the fountain or the steps up to the Jefferson. But I've always been one for flow and procession, so the Capitol it is!

I don't go into the city every day. I am fortunate enough to not have to make that hour long commute every day by teleworking once a week. On the days that I do, starting at the beginning of Fiscal Year 2013, I'm taking this picture of the Capitol... from here:

I'll work on getting a picture of the vantage point, but really, I'm on my way to work so taking these few shots is about all I have time for. Also, how cute are my feet? That was pretty much the last week for flip flops.

I don't really have any guidelines other than that. Posting the pictures probably should happen every day, but I'll be lucky if I even get the picture taken. It's not an original idea. A crap ton of people have already done the whole take a picture every day thing, and they've done it a whole lot better than I anticipate doing. But I'm doing this as something to get me back into being me... in my life... for myself... I was artsy-fartsy at some point in my life and I'd like to do that again. I can't just have days of staring at computers full of numbers and code (sorry, LOC!) Besides, I'm running out of art school projects to enter into the annual employee art show at the Library of Congress. (Come see what I've got this year on the 6th floor of the Madison building before it's gone! It should be up until November 9th)
